Boom Stand with 180cm Crossbar

This piece of gear is a useful helper in lighting work. Its crossbar lets you move the light source away from the base of the stand (you can boom it in from the edge of a paper backdrop toward the center line of the background), and raise or lower your light as needed.

A boom stand is quite a flexible system. The height of the center column, the length of the arm and the tilt angle of the arm are all adjustable.

It is important to balance the boom arm: the counterweight on the opposite end of the arm must keep the load at the end of the boom in balance!

You can use it with a studio flash and its light modifier (to raise and tilt the key light, or to create a hair light), and in video lighting likewise to hold a hair light or a rim light.
