Building on the success of the RODE Videomic Pro camera microphone - launched in early 2011 and soon a de facto standard for DSLRs - and of the RODE Stereo VideoMic, the new Stereo VideoMic Pro was made in Australia. It is a great choice for videographers, journalists, wildlife film-makers and photographers, as well as for music recordings where capturing the atmosphere of the room in high quality is essential. The matched pair of 1/2 inch high-sensitivity cardioid condenser capsules reproduces a wide stereo image with natural depth, and the XY arrangement gives the front of the scene a sculpted presence. The Stereo VideoMic Pro inherits the feature set of the by now standard VideoMic Pro, and thanks to its ergonomic design it is a perfect match for DSLRs and video cameras, and for semi-professional cameras built around large sensors. The shock mount absorbs mechanical noise from vibration, so it does not spoil the recorded sound. The special signal cable transfers significantly less noise than conventional audio cables. The user-friendly control panel on the back carries the switches you use to fine-tune your recording: Here you switch on the low-cut filter, designed to remove low-frequency noise such as air conditioning, traffic or wind. (75Hz) Another switch turns on the pad, which lets you reduce the microphone's sensitivity so that at high-volume events, for example live concerts or sports, you can still make a clean, distortion-free recording. The same switch has one more position, which applies the signal boost already proven on the Videomic Pro. The boost gives you even better recordings with DSLRs: set the camera's weaker built-in audio amplifier to a low level and switch the high-quality gain boost on at the microphone, which adds +20 dB of level. All in all, this feature delivers far more sensitive, better-sounding recordings in especially quiet, natural surroundings or at an acoustic music performance.
